The Pop Stop: Jimmie Allen & Babyface, Fletcher, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Saturday 26th Jun 2021 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Jimmie Allen & Babyface, FLETCHER, Dillon Francis & Shift K3Y, and Greyson Chance.

Join us inside…

Jimmie Allen & Babyface – Forever

Country music singer Jimmie Allen has joined forces with R&B great Babyface for this genre-bending slice of heaven. As part of Allen’s expanded ‘Bettie James’ EP, this track proves simplicity can be the best. Built around a delicate piano progression, Allen and Babyface expertly blend their voices together for a sound that spans generations and genres. A true masterpiece from one of music’s greatest legends and from one of its rising stars. Together, they prove the power of togetherness on a song that will truly stand the test of time and last forever.

Fletcher – Healing

Never one to shy away from her emotions, Fletcher has made a name for herself as one of Pop’s most vulnerable songwriters. Her latest track, ‘Healing,’ is no different. A steady guitar and 808s provide the heartbeat for this confessional track as she unpacks her faults and commits to working on herself. While the sound is expertly crafted and cohesive, Fletcher makes it clear that despite the appearance, she is still working on keeping it all together. On the track she sings: “I’m finally breathing, the smoke ain’t gone, but it’s clearing.” Once the smoke clears, it’s easy to see why this is her strongest work to date.

Dillon Francis & Shift K3Y – Love Me Better

EDM megastar Dillon Francis has joined forces Shift K3Y and Marc E. Bassy for their hypnotic new single ‘Love Me Better.’ Confessional, addictive, and spellbinding, ‘Love Me Better’ has all the ingredients to be a hit. Simply put, it is each artist at their peak and shows just how high they can soar.

Greyson Chance – High Waisted

It’s been over 10 years since Greyson Chance released his debut single ‘Waiting Outside The Lines’ was released; however, the release of his new EP ‘Trophies’ only proves that some things get better with time. Case in point, the track ‘High Waisted’ from the project. This synth-pop bop is equal parts ethereal and dance-worthy. The title says it all, Chance delivers a series of trophies with his latest EP; however, his greatest achievement to date rests with this absolute slice of Pop perfection.

“Forever” reminds me a bit of “Someone to Love”. It’s not as good but still nice to listen to.
